I am running W2k3sbs sp2 w/exch2k3 sp2. I perform backups to DVD-Rs on a monthly basis. The Public Folder DB has grown over 8.4 GB and I have archived old items off into a PST file. I also changed the Deletion Settings to "Keep deleted items for 0 days" and unchecked "Do not permanently delete items..." Within Outlook when I right click Public Folders to see the file size, it shows that the total Public Folder size about 5.1 GB. How do I decrease the Public Folder size so I can continue with the DVD backups?
You will need to perform an offline defrag of the pub.edb http://www.petri.co.il/defragment_exchange_2000_2003_server_databases.htm "Rob K" wrote in message news:86146202-F3BD-4087-A0F6-E4D01864FE03@microsoft.com... >I am running W2k3sbs sp2 w/exch2k3 sp2. > > I perform backups to DVD-Rs on a monthly basis. I performed the defrag successfully and the file size has remained the same. Is there anything else I am forgetting? Has online maintenance run since the cleaned everything up? If not, there are still items in the dumpster. The next time it runs, it will clean those up. After online maintenance runs in the middle of the night, check your event 1221 in the application event logs. It will tell you how much whitespace you have. I performed the cleanup a week ago. Online maintenance did run this morning (before I performed an offline defrag). There are 6 entries of event ID 1221. The latest entry shows: The database "First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (servername)" has 1 megabytes of free space after online defragmentation has terminated. The 3 prior to that also state 1 megabyte, the 4th states 2164 megabytes and the fifth states 0 megabytes. That's why it isn't getting smaller. You still have the same amount of data in there...
