Can only see OWA from outside firewall on one Exchange 2003 in site
I've brought up a second Exchange 2003 server in my organization. The old
one allowed OWA access through the firewall. It's still online and
operational.

The new server won't allow access through the firewall. I can access either
from within my DMZ or from within my trusted side, but can only see OWA on
the old one from outside the firewall. For reasons I haven't had time yet
to address, we're not using SSL (that will change soon, but I'm up to my
eyeballs fixing long-standing problems now that my old boss left).

The final thing here is that until Wednesday, the new server WAS allowing
OWA access. Wednesday morning, it stopped...
I spent all day comparing configs on both. By late evening, I gave up and
went to bed. When I woke up the next day, OWA was open again!?!?!

All was well yesterday (Thurs) and then this morning, OWA stopped again.

Both mornings, it stopped around 7:30am - 8:00am. Not that I'm sure that
that matters - I'm trying not be get superstitious about this.

Anyway, there's nothing in my event log that points to anything happening
when OWA became inaccessible. I'm really at a loss and not sure where to
look?

Suggestions are VERY welcome at this point :-)

Thanks,
Mark

If you get to the server from within the network, then this isnt an
Exchange issue. I would check the firewall logs.

A curious thing I've just discovered today is that I can access OWA on this
one particular server - intermittently. For example, right after some sort
of reconfiguration or reboot. I updated my NIC drivers, which didn't
require a reboot when finished, and was able to access OWA, but my Windows
Mobile 6 device said that there was an error synchronizing. After several
minutes had passed, OWA no longer opened.

I messed around some more and made a change to my NIC that required a reboot
and after that reboot, OWA was again fully available for about five minutes,
then stopped. My mobile device still wouldn't synch.

How's that for a brain teaser? :-)

I'm banging my head on this - and it's Saturday - that's not fair!!!

Thanks,
Mark

Is the OS Windows 2003 SP2? It could possibly a SNP issue:

Have you run ExBpa against the server?

Okay - sorry it's taken so long to respond... I've been Googling and having
a conniption... :-)

It seems (running for a couple of hours now) that rebuilding IIS (KB883380)
may have been all that was needed (now I'm really thinking about banging my
head against the wall).

What I'd noticed was that even when OWA was working (for brief periods), the
ActiveSync never seemed to work - I could never get my PDA to sync. That
made me REALLY start to think that IIS was goobered up. I found KB883380
and gave that a shot and immediately after was able to have normal
connections with my PDA.

I'm watching this closely and will let you know in another day or so if that
was all that was needed.

Thanks for your assistance (on a weekend even)!
