Hi The guys that did setup the exchange did somekind of a unpractical job by only making my D-drive 11GB for my Exch 2003 server. Now it is running full and i need to delete some stuff if possible. these are the big folders - can i delete them or not? Driver Cache - 111mb inf - 196mb Microsoft.NET - 126mb repair - 166mb ServicePackFiles - 786mb Software Distribution - 285mb and the big one is system32 - 4.76GB

You're not the only person to ask about deleting seemingly redundant files. Try searching for various discussions that have already taken place: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=can+i+delete+servicepackfiles But you NEED System32 . Anyway, if you want to have your system to keep running, you should definitely leave System32 alone; almost *all* of Windows is there. And you shouldn't delete any of the others, too; you can only remove SoftwareDistribution, which contains already-applied updates, but you're not going to free up much space this way. Massimo
Hi it should have been C drive yes.typing mistake - sorry "Massimo" wrote in message news:uQppmQ26IHA.616@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > "MSExchangeStudent" ha scritto nel > messaggio news:%232L$W0y6IHA.1192@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > >> The guys that did setup the exchange did somekind of a unpractical job by >> only making my D-drive 11GB for my Exch 2003 server. Then why would you want to free up space in C: ? Anyway, if you want to free up space in you Exchange drive, you should do a full Exchange backup. That will purge old transaction logs. By the way, they should be on a different drive than Exchange database files, or you'll lose all in case of a drive failure. You can lose logs, and you can lose databases (as long as you have a backup), but you don't want to lose both at the same time. Massimo
Separate from each other. If you lose that volume you'll lose data. If they're on separate physical volumes and lose one or the other, you shouldn't lose any data. -- Ed Crowley MVP - Exchange "Protecting the world from PSTs and brick backups!" I understand that thank you - was setup the way it is with logs and database on the same drive. All the different partitions is on the same RAID config so i guess it doesn't matter weather i move the logs to a different partition hey because if the RAID fail al the partitions is still lost So, as i understand it it is better to have seperate physical disks ie. separate RAIDS and put the database on one and the logs on the other.Am i right? > > > Massimo >

Yes. This way you'll get better performances and lower risks of losing both the database(s) and the transaction logs at the same time. Massimo

Couple things you can try: 1. Most logs files default to C: drive such as SMTP logs; and IIS logs see if they do and whack them 2. Move the page file from the C: drive to another partition James Chong (MVP) MCITP | EMA; MCSE | M, S, Security, Project, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com On Jul 21, 8:26 am, "MSExchangeStudent" wrote: > Hi > > The guys that did setup the exchange did somekind of a unpractical job by > only making my D-drive 11GB for my Exch 2003 server.
