We currently have about 5500 mailboxes on Exchange Server 2003. We have four exchange servers, HP DL380s with 4 3.6GHZ processors. We will be creating about 3500 new mailboxes. I was asked how many more mailboxes can our mail servers handle? What are best practices on the number of mailboxes a server can handle. Database San storage: 1/2 of the total san space is being used for each server. thanks.
Hi, 9000 mailboxes across 4 Exchange BackEnd Servers is fine in terms of load. Less than 2500 mailboxes per Server. Ensure you follow ExBPA and optimise your OS and Exchange configuration. Pay particular attention to the memory recommendations as HP have bloatware in their latest drivers and this can cause DL380 G5's to become unstable much earlier due to bloated NPP issues. Ensure all drivers are current, also if you do not have SP2 installed, take a look at also installing: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=918976 Oliver > We currently have about 5500 mailboxes on Exchange Server 2003.
