rename e2k7 server
I am in the midst of planning my transition to e2k7. Currently running 2
e2k3 servers in an FE-BE environment. From the sounds of things I have a
large number of mis-configured non-mapi clients(Entourage on Macs)
pointing to the BE. In my transition I will be purchasing new hardware
for the BE(now hub/mailbox roles, the FE will be formatted to load
x64bit OS and be the cas role). After I move all the mailboxes is it
possible/advisable to rename the mailbox server to the old BE's name?

Thanks for the info.

Well, really depends on how much time you will save just fixing the
"misconfigured non-mapi clients" as opposed to keeping the same Server name.
I would tend to think fixing the clients to point to the new Exchange Server
name would be less time consuming and less headache in your transition to
Exchange 2007. This not to mention that the MAPI clients will automatically
get pointed to the new Exchange Server if you use the Move Mailbox wizard.

John, thanks for the reply. I have come to the determination that fixing
the non-mapi clients would be a ton easier. Sounds like our Mac tech
guys have figured out away to script the change to point to the FE/soon
to be CAS, which will have the same name.

Re: rename e2k7 server
Hi,

You can't rename an exchange server (sure you might be able to but
everything will break).
