Public Folder Permissions
Dear,
Last week we created about 400 mail enabled public folders on our Exchange
Server 2003 SP2 by meaning of a script.
This went fine as those PFs are receiving email. Replay on it works also
with my own name.
Replying with the PF email address in the from field (send as) causes the
following NDR: You don’t have the permissions to send to this recipient.
I granted myself the “Send as” and “Send on behalf” rights on the PFs
Directory Security Tab and it doesn’t work, even not after two hours or even
a reboot.
What did I wrong?
I have another question: Why are these Directory settings not propagated to
all sub folders? Directory settings can’t be propagated through the wizard. I
know Directory settings are only propagated when creating new child folders,
but this too doesn’t work.
Does someone has a script to add the “Send as” right on the PF at creation
time? Would be nice if I could integrate this in the script I use to create
the folder.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Peter

Note that it said "send TO", not "send AS". Having the "Send As"
permission on an AD object has no effect on your ability to send to
that mail-enabled object.

Are you asking about the "Directory rights..." button on a public
folder? Or the "Send As" permission on an AD object's "Security" tab?

Re: Public Folder Permissions
Thanks Rich.
I’m talking about the Directory Rights Tab in the Exchange Manager. Those
PFs do have an AD object, but in opposite to a real mailbox, no
“Permissions” Tab. So the only place I found security settings was in the
Exchange manager.

Peter

Re: Public Folder Permissions
Dear Rich,
I granted myself all possible ACLs on the public folder permissions
"Directory Security" tab and I receive the same NDR.

Peter

They do, when the PF is mail-enable. But you still haven't clarified
why you're messing around with the "send AS" permission when the error
said you didn't have permission to send TO the folder.

They do in ADSIEdit. :-)

Wait . . . Did you want Send AS or Send On Behalf Of? Or is your
problem that you can't send to the folder?

Re: Public Folder Permissions
Dear Rich,

What I do is the following:

I’m user Peter with mailbox Peter. Someone outside the company send an email
to 705012856CE@domain.be (an email enabled public folder).
I reply on that mail and put 705012856CE@domain.be in the “from” field and
send the mail back to the one on the internet. This gives me the error.
When I put my own email or another user’s email in the “from” it works, but
not with the PF email address. The only difference here is that the PF does
not have a mailbox while the users do.

Before Exchange was in native mode, I received an NDR (You do not have the
right to sent to this recipient). Now Exchange is in native mode, I’m even
not able to send the mail. When I click on sent, I receive a message box with
“You do not have the right to send on behalf…..”.

To be sure, I granted myself all rights on the PF in EXM. So I have “send
as”, ,……, but “sent to” is not on that list?
Mailbox server, is member of the same single domain forest as the user
accounts. Do I have to disable the flag “Hide from address list” on the PF?
Someone told me he encountered the same problem, and suddenly, it went away
after about 24 hours????

Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Peter

Okay, you've done the right thing and it still doesn't work. How many
public folder stores do you have? How many Global Catalog servers?
This could be a PF replication problem, or an AD replication problem.

Re: Public Folder Permissions
I have only on esingle Exchange Server and only one public folder store. All
three domain controllers are global catalog and ADS repication is working
correctly.

If the "Send As" permission is present in the AD object on each DC and
GC then I don't know what else to tell you. I can't reproduce your
problem.

Time to call MS, I suppose.

Re: Public Folder Permissions
Dear Rich,
I would like to thank you for the help and the effort.
I finally found the solution( almost by accident:) ). When creating a PF,
the “Hide from exchange address list” box has been enabled. Just remove it
and it works. Even without giving the “send as” or “send on behalf” rights.
Thanks anyway.

Peter
