uninstalling exchange 2003
Hi,

I am experiencing difficulty removing exchange 2003. This is not the last
server in the organisation. When I try to remove exchange I receive the
following error:

one or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These users
must be removed to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail disabled
before uninstalling this server.

When I look in the mailbox store in ESM I can only see two system mailboxes
which I know I can ignore. I have ran a search in AD to find if their is a
user with an exchange attributews linking to this server but it comes back
clean.

The only other thing I should mention is I am trying to unistall exchange
remotely and not using the CD but simply going to add remove programs and
selecting remove. I don't expect this to be the problem but thought I would
mention it anyway.

I've already tried this but it returns no users

Re: uninstalling exchange 2003
Paul,

There has to be a mailbox there lurking in the shadows! If you have
programs such as MOM, many backup programs, etc. they will create a mailbox
for different purposes - is it possible that one of these mailboxes are there?

Do you have multiple AD domains?

Re: uninstalling exchange 2003
Hi,

Yes we do have a multiple domains. I have tried doing the simple test of
searching AD for a user with this exchange server as it's home server on
numerous DC's just in case it was a replication issue but unfortunately every
time I run the search it returns with no users.

I'm pretty sure it's an object with an attribute linking it to this exchange
server but other than the simple AD find I don't know what to do.

What about ADSIE edit, could this be used to drill down to find the object?

Be sure to search the entire forest, not just a single domain if you
havent already, cant tell by your response.

Yep, probably a mailbox that was never logged into.
Have you tried other methods?
