Recovery Storage Group - no transaction logs...
Is it possible to use the recovery storage group process to extract
data from a mailbox if I only have the priv1.edb and pub1.edb? I do
not have access to the transaction log files.

Sure. As long as the store is in a clean shutdown state.

Re: Recovery Storage Group - no transaction logs...
You're probably better off using a product like Quest Recovery Manager or
OnTrack Power Controls.

No, you would need to be able to do an online restore, I believe. Plus, if
you don't have the .stm files as well you don't have everything (and you
can't use the RSG for public folder data). Check out Quest's Recovery
Manager for Exchange or Ontrack's PowerControls if you need this data.

It will work, assuming its in a clean shutdown and the file names
match what is in production. You can drop it into the RSG directory
and if everything is correct , it will mount.

RE: Recovery Storage Group - no transaction logs...
It is possible to recover as our mate suggested but the only condition is it
should be clean shutdown and for this you need to re-create stm file :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555146

Condition applied : you can able to recover only priv database not the
public database under RSG.

Assuming its not Exchange 2007 of course since the stm is a 2000/2003
thing :)

Yowl. Thanks for removing any doubt.

Of course if hes missing the stm, he's got the same problem with using
3rd party products.

The quest stuff can proceed without them...but yes, there will be missing
data.
