distribution list restore
Hello,

How do we go about restoring. We backup the whole information store.

If we restore it to the recovery group, would we be able to see it or
extract it?

TIA,

tt

Re: distribution list restore
yes, if you restore to the recovery storage group you will be able to
extract the mail or copy it into a mailbox on the production storage group.

technet.microsoft.com has a good disaster recovery guide.

Re: distribution list restore
Andy,
Thanks for your response.

There is such thing as distribution list created on the user's end too
(outlook)? So only server side are saved?

Thanks,
Tt

Re: distribution list restore
AD distribution lists would need to be recovered by an AD restore...if a DL
was in a mailbox (PDL), you should be able to recover that with a restore of
the mailbox, via the RSG...

Re: distribution list restore
Thanks Susan. I am trying to put a list so I can plan a disaster recovery.

Re: distribution list restore
Sigh. I answered too quickly.

Sorry. No, the DL isn't in the RSG. It would require an AD restore. AD
does keep a dumpster of deleted items, but it only keeps a partial set of
properties and for DL's the members property isn't one of them that it
keeps.

So, you could do an authoritative restore of AD, or you could restore the AD
to an offline server and then export the DL membership and re-import it onto
the production environment.

Re: distribution list restore
Right, a user PDL from the contacts folder would likely be in the dumpster
and available through recover deleted items.
