Deleting databases and logs Exchange 2003
Hi,

I have a server running Exchange 2003 SP2 that contains multiple mailbox
stores. I would like to delete 2 of the stores. H,owever when I dismount
them, even after a full backup, the log files begin piling up and the backup
job fails. As soon as I re-mount the stores and perform a full backup the
backup runs fine and the old log files are removed.

I would like to know what Microsoft's recommendation is for removing stores
from Exchange 2003 servers. I have searched for articles related to this
issue, but can only find information pertaining to Exchange 2007.

Make certain there are no mailboxes on the stores.
Right click Dismount
Right click Delete

If it complains about mailboxes still being on it, see this.

RE: Deleting databases and logs Exchange 2003
In terms of the databases on EX2003, keep in mind that the transaction logs
are at the SG level, and cover all stores in that SG. What is your driver
behind wanting to remove the stores? (i.e. is it the last legacy exchange
server in the org?, etc)

RE: Deleting databases and logs Exchange 2003
It's not really essential that I remove them - I was attempting to save some
disk space.

They are all in the same storage group. Would it be a better idea to move
them to a new storage group (so they don't share the same logs) and then
delete them?

Thanks for the information
