visio 2002 drawing edit problem
Hi, I paste visio drawings into Microsoft Word (XP). Sometimes when I come to
edit, the visio drawing will not open in visio, and Word treats it as an
object. Any help gratefully appreciated as I'm fed up of having to re-draw
things.

Re: visio 2002 drawing edit problem
It sounds like the Word Doc is losing the link to the Visio Doc (the
assumption being that it was pasted using Paste Special (visio object)).

Re: visio 2002 drawing edit problem
Hi Al
I've never used Paste Special as far as I'm aware. I tend to use documents
which all descend from an original word document, with a visio chart pasted
into it. It's starnge, I can have one page of the document with the problem,
then the next page is just fine. Still, if you have any ideas on how to
re-create the vsio link, that would be great. PS, I've tried copying the
chart and pasting directly into Visio; it allows a little editing of the
text, but not any changes to the chart symbols etc.

Re: visio 2002 drawing edit problem
Moving objects (bitmaps, application specific formats, metafiles, etc.)
between applications has to be done with the understanding that some things
may get changed in the process and may be unable to send back to the
original application for processing. As an example copying with paste often
just moves an image of what the user was working on. In the case of Visio
the picture may lose much of the 'smarts' that was originally in it.
Attempting to copy the image and send it back to the originator can be
unsuccessful because (in your case MS Word) has no knowledge of what needs
to be sent and then Visio only has a little of the original to work with.
It's a real common question that comes to the forums.
