Headers & Footers
Hello

I have recently been producing many documents in Visio and was wondering
about the and have have noticed that there are limited options for adding
informtation and primarily I was after displaying the full path name of the
file.

Does anyone know how this can be achieved?

Kind regards

Ricky

RE: Headers & Footers
Insert the Document Info - Directory before the Document Info - Filename.

Hello Phillipe

Kind regards

Re: Headers & Footers
Unlike the other Office apps, H&Fs were added to address a specific problem.
The "Visio" way has always been to use background pages. What Philippe is
referring to is the Field option from the Insert menu. H&Fs have a limited
range of items that can be placed in a H&F. Anything that can be placed on a
page can be placed on a background page. If you place a field on a
background page, it reflects the information associated with the foreground
page. For example, you can place the page name on a background page and
every foreground page the background page is attached to shows the page name
of the foreground page in the same position.

As to why H&Fs were added? It was to address the situation of when a Visio
page has to physically print over many physical pages. If the Visio page and
the printed page are the same size, H&Fs are redundant when a background
page exists.

No, Philippe means use the Visio menu
Insert -> Field
and field from the Document Info section.

Re: Headers & Footers
If you bring up the stencil: General - Title Blocks, there are a great many
"cute" shapes that may be used on either foreground or background pages.
Amongst these is the shape: Filepath. It displays the local filepath to the
Visio drawing. The shape can be manipulated to contain the entire path.

Enjoy!

I think that shape is in Professional only, not Standard.

Re: Headers & Footers
You will find that these shapes use the basic Insert Field fields. So it
will work in Standard, but you may have to create your own.

Except Insert Field does not work in H&Fs.

Re: Headers & Footers
Oooh, the pre-made field shapes are only in Visio Professional!?

I guess that makes some sort of sense. They are from the Title Blocks
stencil, which would have been in Visio Technical, which for the most
part got merged with Visio Pro.

Would it be useful etc to create a web page/blog or several showing
images of which stencils come with each version of Visio? I do this
for all my own Visio add-ons, anyone can see exactly what shapes they
are getting. (I realise it's not just the shapes in the stencils that
are important).

Re: Headers & Footers
I think it would be very useful. Only, I think Microsoft should have already
included it with their product comparison feature. But, in lieu of that ever
happening, your suggestion would be very beneficial, Paul.
