Visio features as per Excel/Word
Hi,

Would anyone know whether the next Visio release will be similar to
Excel/Word where you can add drop shadows/Mirror etc ?

Thanks

Sadly no. Visio uses a different graphics engine than Word & Excel. We
will be updating the look of our shapes, but the formatting effects will be
unchanged.

I'd be interested to know what kind of diagram you would apply these effects
to. That will help us with planning going forward.

Re: Visio features as per Excel/Word
Mark,

Visio is much better at handling large files not only in memory but also in
dimensions, but the effects in Word / Excel are excellent - Visio has looked
different (I know MS bought Visio so has been written different from the
beginning) but it would be nice if all of the MS products shared some of the
new features.

Regards,

Sanjay

Re: Visio features as per Excel/Word
The electrical symbols is one area that could use a lot of upgrading. Some
areas of improvement would be to add several fields that could be displayed
and captured in a report. Similar to the various symbols in the Org Chart
arena. Specifically, it would be nice to have a "reference designator
discriptor, e.g., Rxx, and a value field, e.g., 10 ohms. Then the inventory
report could pick up these fields. Also, a netlist report that shows the
connectivity between the various components. How's that for ambitious?

Re: Visio features as per Excel/Word
Dont be impatient you will certainly find new features to manage connector
between shape and to manage shape functional group of shape.
That will be very interesting in electrical drawing.
Enjoy with visio

Re: Visio features as per Excel/Word
Thank you Michel. Not impatient, just wanted to make sure that some of these
features were duly elevated. You may have noted that I made this request a
"formal" suggestion, the intent was to submit it through "proper channels"
and allow others an opportunity to vote.

Cheers!

Our own electrical and electronics shapes have such properties to
allow you to use the built-in reports to produce parts lists.
The netlist functionality though, EDIF? Spice? Import and export?
Complicated, difficult, expensive. How much demand would there be?
