Inactive Resources
We are using Project Server 2007 SP1, and have come across the following
scenario :
  1. Set up a resource that will also have logon ability to Project Server
  2. Resource changes to a different business unit, and logon access is
removed by marking the resource as inactive.
  3. We still wish to assign this resource to some tasks within plans (even
though they do not have logon ability)
  4. The resource no longer displays as an available resource in Project
Server, and error messages appear when opening plans for which that inactive
resource has remaining work.

Is there a better way to remove a user's login in these cases (we want to
limit the number of licences due to budget), whilst still retaining the
ability to assign the resource to tasks - basically would like to clear the
"Resource can logon to Project Server" checkbox, but this is greyed out once
it has been set ???

Hi David,

Project server's licencing works on each and every user that has the
log on permission. So i could suggest creating a diff group , with its
own security template
Category etc. Add these users to that group and apply the security
template to the group. They will be able to be assigned to tasks but
cannot log onto the server, all reporting would still be able
done on these resources.

Regards
Andre

Re: Inactive Resources
Thanks Andre,

That's probably the way to go - I didn't really notice the security setting
to Deny the logon, so I'll just set that. Still, it seems a bit of a strange
implementation in that there is a separate "Resource can logon to Project
Server" checkbox that is unable to be cleared once it is set on.
