External links between project not updating correctly.
I have attempted to create a master project from tasks in multiple
subprojects. I've tried two approaches and both fail but for
different reasons.

The first is to copy task and paste special/paste link into the master
plan. This approach allows me to create a link where most fields sync
up except for the %work complete field, in the master project. If I
change the %work complete field to anything other than 100% in the
subproject the field updates correctly, but once I change the %work
complete in the subproject to 100% complete the master project reverts
to 0% complete.

I've gone into the tools/options/calculate tab and verified that the
calculation mode is set to automatic and have clicked the calculate
now button, but no change.

The second approach was to open the task information box in the master
project and enter the subproject name and id into the ID field
[\projectname\taskID]. This approach created two task entries in the
master project and subproject - one with the correct %work complete
and the second task with the correct duration, start and finish
dates. Deleting either from the master or subproject causes both
tasks to be deleted.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Anyone got an idea???

Thanks in advance,
jag

Re: External links between project not updating correctly.
Hello Jag,

There are two primary methods of creating master, or consolidated,
project files. One is to create the master project file which will be
the shell for the inserted projects. Then in the master file, choose
Insert > Project and select the project(s) you wish to insert into the
master. The inserted projects are embedded in the master and changes
made to the inserted project will be reflected in the master file.
Likewise, changes made to task(s) in the master project, will be
reflected in the inserted project file.

The other method is to open the multiple subproject files and choose
Window > New Window to create a consolidated master project.

See Help for further details.

In the future, please post your question to one of the following
newsgroups:
Microsoft.public.project - for general (non-server) questions
about Microsoft project
Microsoft.public.project.server - for questions specific to Project
Server
Microsoft.public.project.developer - for questions about using
programming (VBA, VB, C, etc) in Project and Project server.

Note: I have set the follow-up for this message to
Microsoft.public.project

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
