resource usage per shift
I am using MSP 2003. My schedule includes trades as resources (ex:
welders, mechanics, etc). We are working on a two shift schedule that
goes from 7:30-17:30 and 18:30-4:30. I have defined the work day as:

00:00 - 4:30
7:30 - 17:30
18:30 - 00

My concern is getting the correct resource usage. I have two
problems:
1)I really want to get the resource usage per shift, but for a variety
of reasons I can't create a differentiation between the trade names (ex:
welder-shift 1 and welder-shift 2). So if I ran a usage report, it will
give total day usage of that trade (welder)
2) In addition, because the shift crosses over midnight, a resource
usage report per day will give: second half last night's 2nd shift +
today's day 1st shift + beginning half of 2nd shift. This might be
quite different from the full two shifts on a given day.

Question:
How can I obtain a resource usage report per shift, even if one of the
shifts crosses over midnight into the "next day"?

Thanks a ton.

Re: resource usage per shift

Re: resource usage per shift
Hi redmadcap,

Without setting up resources with specific shift schedules, I don't
believe you can do this. I suggest setting the two shifts and
assigning the shift calendars to resources if at all possible.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Re: resource usage per shift
By not distinguishing the resources by shift and using the calendar you've
created you are telling Project that EACH individual welder works a full 20
hours per day. As far as Project is concerned, the way you've set it up the
welder that's there at 10am is the same person that's there at 10pm. The way
you've set it up I don't think it will be possible to get the reports you
want, or for that matter have it calculate a proper work schedule in the
first place. You really must split the workers out by shift and have
calendars that describe the real work patterns of the people involved.
