Static ID for activities
Hi,

I have made a very big programme (approx. 3000 activities) & circulated it
to all the stakeholders of the project including the construction team. Due
to uncertain nature of the project I need to revise the programme on monthly
basis. Every month there are significant addition, deletion & logic changes
of the activities.

In doing so, the ID column of a particular activity keeps on changing on
every deletion/addition of activities. During the meetings It was difficult
to refer activities from current & previous versions as the ID kept on
changing.

Then I applied a Text col. to have a Static ID for all activities.

Now, to discuss the logic during the meetings I want to show the
predeccessors & successors on the Gnatt BARS in terms of the Static ID!!!
Like - 1123C FS+5days

I know there is a field called "unique ID" for the same, but using this to
find out the predecesors & Successors on several A0 printouts of the
programme is really clumsy for a big programme, especially when you have got
28 revisions to your programme!!!

Is there a way to do this?

Any relevent views will be appreciated.

Re: Static ID for activities
Thanks Jan,

But I was looking for Static ID predecessors & Static ID Successors. Static
ID being a customised field, let's say text1. e.g when I input in text1
value as E3082 to one activity & link it to another with text1 value S5096
activity with a lag of say 5 days, the successor to first activity should
show S5096FS+5days on the Gantt Bar.

I hope I have emphasized my Qn now.

Re: Static ID for activities
Hi,

You would have to write a program in VBA to make someting the like.
Why not use Unique ID which is built for the prupose?
