weekend and duration dates conflict
I am in Sales and I create a "preliminary" Microsoft schedule for my
proposal. This schedule is intended to start / end dates and task duration
along with required predecessor/successor links.

Our company just recently converted to Microsoft Project 2007.

For installation of the work, I need to show weekend installation only, for
nine consecutive weekends. I created a new calendar called "Weekend Work" and
linked the pertinent tasks to this new schedule. My first installation is for
3 days with a start of Saturday and end date of Tuesday. It should have an
end date of Monday. My remaining installation tasks have a duration of 2 days
with a start of Saturday and an end date of Monday. It should have an end
date of Sunday.

I tried to force the dates, but it will not reflect the forced change.

What am I missing?

Re: weekend and duration dates conflict
Hi,
First, I'm a litttle curious how "weekend only" work can end of Monday or
Tuesday
But to clarify your problem, go to Tools, Options, View, and in the Date
Format selection go for the uppermost one (including time of day)
That may already help.

If not, fdo come back with the details about the hours.

Hello Cayce,

Did you assign resources to these week end tasks? If so, did you checked the
box : Scheduling ignores resources calendars
in the Task information dialog.

Re: weekend and duration dates conflict
It is not weekend only work, but rather is work that must be conducted over a
weekend. The first installation will require the weekend plus one work day
(Monday) whereas the remaining eight (8) installations will be done on
weekend only. The first installation has a 3 day duration and the remaining
installations have a 2 day duration. In both cases, microsoft is displaying
an extra day to each isntallation.

I did got to the Options tab and changed the view........this has not
changed the extra day that Microsoft wants is displaying.

Re: weekend and duration dates conflict
Resources are not assigned. Tasks were entered on the Summary using
durations. The dates are driven by predecessor/successor links. I did go
ahead and checked the box you suggested.....it didn't change anything.

Re: weekend and duration dates conflict
Assumptions: You set Saturday and Sunday as the only working days and you
entered the first task with elapsed days to force it to schedule work on
Monday.

Did you change the start times so that the tasks would begin at 1:00 AM and
not later? A 6:00 am start on Saturday would produce a 6:00 am finish on
Tuesday morning. I think you need to set your start times at the beginning of
the day, say 1:00am and you might have to set the first task's duration to
like 2.9ed to prevent a Tuesday finish. The remaining tasks should adjust to
Saturday and Sunday as well.

Re: weekend and duration dates conflict
You're right........the time is odd. It shows a start time of 10:00 a.m. and
an end time of 10:00 a.m.

Re: weekend and duration dates conflict
Darrell,

There was a conflict with the default start and end times. I modified those
and now they work perfectly.

Thanks,
