Images won't show on working slide but do show on thumbnail   

In PPT, I can insert an image and it appears on the thumbnail in the 
taskpane, but the image will not appear on the slide.  If I click on where I 
think it should be on the working slide, I cand see the "frame" dots, but not 
the image.  I have tried changing the order of the image but with no luck.  
Is there some image setting that I need to change.

Probably seems counter intuative but try setting hraphics hardware 
acceleration back.
