Re: Local Server?
You don't need a web server to use FrontPage includes. As I said
before, the included page is added to the parent page when the parent is
saved - open a page that has a FrontPage include in it and you will see
that for yourself. If FireFox etc. does not display the included
content, then there is an error in the code - or you are using root
relative links from a website not located at the hard drive root folder.
(Neither FrontPage nor Expression Web will allow you to open a web
site that is located at the hard drive root folder - both programs
insist that websites are in folders.)

Re: Local Server?
That should read:
Use Notepad to open a page that has a FrontPage include in it ...
The HTML for the include will be similar to:
<!--webbot bot="Include" tag="BODY" u-include="includedpage.htm"
startspan -->
HTML from included page
<!--webbot bot="Include" i-checksum="51331" endspan -->

Re: Local Server?
I agree that . . Obviously you dont need a web server to use FrontPage
includes. I have been sucessfully using them for years.
There is NO error in the code. It all validates using the W3C Validators AND
it runs ok on the when published to my Internet server. It is ONLY on my
LOCAL PC that there is an odd failure with FF, Opera and Netscape.
I have created an image of the results I get using the four browsers on my
local pc vs on the Internet server.
http://www.wgtn.net/local_pc_browser_problem_2008_07_07.jpg
The top row of the linked image shows what the four browsers display from my
local PC. MSIE is ok. The others are missing stuff. Each browser has its
own column.
The bottom row of the linked image shows the same document when published
and viewed from my Internet server. When viewed from the Internet server
they all look rather well.
But, I dont want to autho on the Interbet server. I want to author on my
local PC and not move it to the server util they ALL look good.
Right now, I cannot tell if they ALL look good on my local PC.
The main domain is at the ROOT of drive E:\
The subwebs are folders (official FrontPage subwebs) within drive E:\
I have had no problem with URL addressing for years. Neither here on my
local PC nor on the server.
I have been suspecting that FF, Opera and netscape have an odd way of
handling the finding of local PC files aand directories and get themselves
confused, but MSIE doesnt get confused.
The code is the same on the Internet server and my local PC. Therefore the
only difference is ow the vrious browsers find things. If it is valid code,
they all should be the same. They are not the same. Therefore, I have
concluded that FF, Opera and Netscape have some deficiency when run locally.
