When importing photos from cameras and/or do a copy and paste from cd's when trying to open the jpeg's photodraw will not open them... I get an: "PhotoDraw cannot access this file. It may be damaged." I can open the jpegs in other programs... I have tried to config PhotoDraw in compatablity mode, no luck, tried associating jpegs with photodraw and then other programs... still no luck. Not sure what else to try... really need someones help. Thanks Shawn
There are basically two solutions. You might not care for either one, but here they are. 1. Revert to an earlier Windows when using PD. It's relatively simple to set up a dual boot system with, say, Vista and 2000 Pro. PD works fine in 2000 Pro and earlier. 2. Trash PD and get a modern image editor. PD, though we love it, was last updated in the previous century. That's an eternity in Software Land. 3. Curse MS and die! (Optional.) Shawn, I am experiencing the same thing, but I noticed this. If I try to bring the jpeg in to PD from an image I took with my Nikon D2h, it works just fine. I recently (2 weeks ago) bought a Sony Cybershot and tried to use those images and that's where I get the problem. Both files are .jpgs. I don't get it. > > > > > > >
I am an avid PhotoDraw fan with the same problem. I attempted resizing the photo in VuePrint, no luck. I tried saving it as various different flavors of JPEG in Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6.0 and also had no luck. I was able to import problem photos by further cropping them (using VuePrint, I assume any editor would have worked). As an aside, I tried to duplicate PhotoDraw's transparent SOFT EDGES feature in PhotoShop for about 6 hours and was unable to pull it off. i get the same message when dragging or opening a recent jpg in photodraw, and am so dang frustrated as i was so use to the app. "PhotoDraw cannot access this file. It may be damaged." if anyone has figured out a new workaround or solution, it would be so appreciated. i've been trying some regedit edits and reinstalling with no luck.
I also encountered the same problem following the last round of Windows updates but I have found a workaround... Open the JPG image in your viewer (I've checked this process with the viewer in Thumbs Plus and with Irfanview). Copy the image to the clipboard using "ctrl+c". Go to Photodraw, click once on the page to select it, and then paste the image from the clipboard using "ctrl+v". I'm not sure if there's any loss in the process but it does get the JPG image into Photodraw. I found one work around that might hep... I opened my image in Windows Picture and Fax View. I took a screen shot of it... (I personally use Gadwin Printscreen- the free version- and set it to capture just a particular area by drawing a box around it.) I then opened PhotoDraw > blank picture > and imported the screen shot. Hope this helps! Here's an idea, open a jpeg image from another image editor (ms paint or gimp...) and save it as another format that is supported by photodraw (like tiff or psd.. .tif worked for me). Then open this file (.tif) into PD. "gail" wrote: > I found one work around that might hep... > I opened my image in Windows Picture and Fax View. > I took a screen shot of it... I've had this same problem, and i've been able to import images into Corel X3 and then export them as high quality bitmaps. PhotoDraw has no problem with these and as far as I know it keeps the same quality. The only downside is that the bitmap is a much larger file.
