Just to give you more info, I get an "PhotoDraw cannot access this file. It may be damaged." I can open the jpegs in other programs... I have tried config PhotoDraw in compatablity mode, no luck, tried associating jpegs with photodraw and then other programs... still no luck. Not sure what else to try... really need someones help. Thanks Shawn "Shawn" wrote: > When importing photos from cameras and/or do a copy and paste from cd's when trying to open the > jpeg's photodraw will not open them... I get "the file may be damaged. I had see the my post on "Need someones HELP" -- just above your post. This solution was based on machines running on Vista. Hope this helps, nan "Shawn" wrote: > Just to give you more info, I get an "PhotoDraw cannot access this file. It > may be damaged." I can open the jpegs in other programs... so what is the solution? I couldn't find that info. Thanks "nan" wrote: > I had see the my post on "Need someones HELP" -- just above your post. I have been getting this same PhotoDraw error lately for some jpegs in Windows XP and don't know why. Sometimes it starts working again. Are Windows Updates breaking it? How can I work around this error? I too have been using PhotoDraw for years- I really wish Microsoft would revive this product - it is so easy and versatile. It's due to Office 2007 overwriting the jpeg filters entry in the registry. It's not related to either XP or Vista. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging www.coribright.com/windows "JoelH" wrote in message news:2B528AC6-C21C-4E40-98D6-325010310470@microsoft.com... >I have been getting this same PhotoDraw error lately for some jpegs in > Windows XP and don't know why. It's not a registry problem with Office 2007. I use Office XP on Vista. It is a Vista issue. I followed your procedure and only ended up with PhotoDraw completly inoperable. I had to recreate the registry entries just to get it to open Jpegs again. It has something to do with the size of the jpeg you are trying to open (so far I haven't been able to find the magic number) but if I take a picture with my Canon G4 (4 meg) I can open the pictures in Photodraw. I cannot however, open pictures that I have taken with my Canon D20 (8 meg) or my Canon Digital Rebel (6 meg) at full resolution. If I take a picture with the resolution reduced to say Medium (and depending on the colors in the picture) then I can open them in Photodraw. If I need to use the pictures for the web or to email out, I generally reduce their resolution with a program called Thumbs Plus. You can do a batch reduce with the program and then edit them in PhotoDraw. Usually I just need to reduce their dimensions by half and they open fine. So it has something to do with either the size of the file or the resolution. But as I stated earlier, it doesn't have anything to do with the registry entries that Office 2007 or 2003 create. As a matter of fact, I installed Office 2007 on my son's desktop which has Windows XP on it and PhotoDraw and PhotoDraw wasn't affected by it at all. It's a shame Microsoft didn't see a need to continue support for PhotoDraw. It's simplistic approach to powerful editing features makes it one of the best programs for web designers to create great looking images for their websites. My dad, who is one of the most computer illiterate people I know, picked up on PhotoDraw quicker than Word and uses it everyday for his photo or image editing software. Hopefully, in the near future, MS will revive this outstanding piece of software or at least find a fix or update so it can be used in Vista. Have a great day...
