how to foresee
Hi,

do I understand correctly that Access 2007 does not support Replication (for
it's own format).
What are people then supposed to use in stead, or how do they then have to
deal with replication?
Does it mean that starting replication now is not a safe way to go?

The ACCDB format does not support replication.

But MDBs created with A2K7 can be replicated, and the UI provides
access to the replication commands.

Just continue using MDBs.

Jet 4 will continue to be supported so that MDB format will be fine.

MS is trying to push people to using Sharepoint, but that requires a
whole boatload of compromises that simply don't work for real
applications. And the other alternative is SQL Server.

MS is trying to kill off Jet replication.

They've been trying to do so for a very, very long time.

But the Access development team appears to me to be trying to make
sure that it is supported going forward.

Remember that Jet 4 was promised to be the last version of Jet,
anyway, so it's not like anything has really changed that we didn't
have on the table from MS since c. 1999.

Re: how to foresee
OK, thanks,

now I dare a bit more.
but still with much caution...
I myself don't have experience with replication, yet,
and the client I make the database for, is not feeling too comfortable with
doing a bit more complicated things on his pc.
for the moment he just takes all the data with him and copies them back when
at the office again.
In the mean time the database at the office is only for consultation.
Replication however has more perspective!
