Re: Getting Illegal Operation Error
Hi Doug,
One way to find the macros would be to use the visual basic editor by
pressing choosing the macros from the tools macros menu, and check what
macros are available, if it is a custom template or something choose the
template name from the macros in. Check if any macros within excel is trying
to load word or something
as specified in the this link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;217440
if any comment the line of code inteh macro and then save the file and then
start excel again, do the same thing in word. It should work.
I was thinking if this does not work only then you may need to change the
registry, I fell it may not be needed.
Hope this helped you

Re: Getting Illegal Operation Error
Thanks Anand,
I was able to open Word97 and clicked on Tools/Macros and saw a lot of them
mentioned. I also opened Excel and did the same thing but NO macros were
listed.
So what do I do now??

Re: Getting Illegal Operation Error
Hi Doug,
Check The Security level for macros from TOOLS->MACROS->SECURITY, if the
level is low, change it to HIGH, this would disable the macros from running.
IF this solves the problem then it certainly problm with the macro, try the
same thing with WORD also.
Hope this helps

Re: Getting Illegal Operation Error
I can't recall any update installations recently; besides, after the problem
started, I uninstalled MSOffice and Re-installed it. No improvement from
doing that either.

Re: Getting Illegal Operation Error
Hi Doug,
I am not sure if this would help, but you can try it.
1) try and repalce the dll file with a another copy from another workign
machine, makign sure its the same version and from a machine having office
97. and see if things get working. In the mean while I'll just check wit
hanother person too and get back.
