I cannot get the table to insert after clicking on toolbar. Why?   

Trying to insert a table into a word document.  I click on the icon on the 
toolbar.  Another set of icons appear, but the usual "insert table" icon is 
blank.  What should I do next?

Have you tried running 'Detect and Repair' from Word's help menu? Is your copy of Word fully updated?
