Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
Hi Herb,
Thank you so much for replying to my post. I am using Word 2007, I have
"Language" selected in my status bar options, but there is no icon appearing
on the status bar. When i turn it off, nothing changes on the status bar,
when I turn the option on, nothing appears on the status bar. Any suggestions
on that one? I'm anxious to test your solution to my problem.
Thanks, again!!

With Language selected in the list of Status Bar tools, your language should
appear on the status bar. Here, the language tool says "English (United
States)". Do you not have that? If not, then perhaps there are too many
status bar option selected to display the language tool. Try right-clicking
the status bar and turning off some options you're less likely to need to
see if your language appears.

Thank you so much, Herb. I have turned off all other status bar options, and
there is no Language icon displaying on my status bar, even though it is
selected in the list of Status Bar Options. Is there any other way to get to
the language indicator options in Word 2007? Thanks!

Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
Hi Herb,
Based on your guidance, I got into Help and found there is a "Set Language"
button on the Ribbon. This gave me the option you mentioned below - the "do
not check spelling and grammar" option. After selecting the text, clicking
the "Set Language" button, and unchecking the "Do not check..." button, all
the incorrectly spelled words were recognized.
Thanks so much for the help - it was exactly what i needed!
Have a great week!

Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
I'm glad you ultimately found it in the Review tab, but I'm at a loss as to
why you're not seeing it in the status bar at the bottom of the Word window.
The only reason it doesn't show up is when too many status bar options are
selected (well... registry corruption can make it not show up, too). As a
test, you might try turning off ALL of the status bar options except for
Language, and see if it shows up then. Note that it's not an icon, and it's
not the word "language". If you're in the U.S., it will display as English
(United States). And, while it looks like it's just there to tell you the
current language, it's actually clickable--clicking on it displays the
Language dialog box, which is exactly what the Set Language tool in the
Review tab does.

Herb,
I am receiving the same message Text marked with 'Do Not check spelling or
gramar' was skipped and I have done the select all -
Tools-Find-More-Format-Select Language and the dialog box "Do not check
spelling" is NOT checked. I also checked to see if there was a textbox
within the document and there was not. Can you give me any other ideas about
correcting this problem? Thanks!

Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
Hello,
I have had this same problem and more. When I click my spelling box in
Outlook (2007) the first box that appears is this:
"Cannot find proofing tools for English (U.S.). If you have the proofing
tools, try installing them or re-installing them. Contact your local reseller
to Obtain Office Proofing Tools. For information, see the Microsoft Office
Suite"
Once I click OK, the other box is underneath it:
"The spelling check is complete. Text marked with 'Do not check spelling or
grammer' was skipped."
Does anyone have some ideas for me? Thanks for your time.

Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
Hi Herb, Im having the same issue as Tammy (language will not show up in the
status bar) I tried removing all check marks and just toggling the check mark
on/off for languages but nothing happens.
I eventualy got to languages another way but it is set correctly
English(United States) I tried resetting it several ways including English
default option. I continue to get the spell check error "text was skipped" I
am using an APA formated version of Word2007, I read on MS site it could have
someting to do with page numbers listed in header box or something to do with
comments option? I have read and read and tried everything. I am at wits end.
Can you help?
Thank You
Jeff

If you start Word in Safe mode (press Ctrl as Word is starting; click Yes to
the safe mode prompt), does the language indicator show up in the status bar
then?

Hi Herb, Thanks for the reply. I tried starting word in safe mode as you
described and yes that works. Languages are now visible in the status bar.
Thank You.

Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
That suggests that the problem is probably a broken registry entry or a
corrupted normal.dotm. I would try:
1. Renaming the Data key. It's here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word
2. Renaming Normal.dotm.

Spell check broken!
MS Word is not checking spelling. Excel and Powerpoint both have functional
spell checkers. The language is set to 'English (Australian)' and the
checkbox marked "do not check spelling or grammar" is NOT checked. HOWEVER,
when I Ctrl+A to select all the text, the "Do not check" checkbox is marked -
not with a tick, but a blue box... Now, if I uncheck this, the spell check
still doesn't work. If I Ctrl+A again, the blue box is there again.
Summary: "do not check spelling or grammar" option will not turn off.
I have heard this could be something to do with laptop mousepads, and/or
Outlook Express... That seems a little crazy, but i'll try anything. Hints or
suggestions greatly appreciated,

Re: Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skippe
Here is the ultimate question. We all realize the problem and we know how to
solve it but why is it happening only on some documents and is there a way to
make sure it never happens again?
