Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
When spell/grammar checking a document, the Explain button is missing from
the dialog box. How can I get it to show up.

thanks!

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
It shows up only when the flagged word contains a grammar problem (or,
something Word thinks is a problem). It doesn't show up for spelling
problems.

Is the flagged problem for grammar (should have a green underline and the
highlighted text in the dialog box should be green) or for spelling
(underlining is red and the highlighted word should be red in the dialog
box).

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
The problem is a grammar problem. The text is underlined in green and the
text in the dialog box is green. Still the "Explain" button doesn't show up.
I am working in Word 2003.

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
What happens if you start Word in Safe mode? Does the Explain button show up
now? (To start in Safe mode, hold down the Ctrl key as Word is starting, and
click Yes to the Safe mode prompt.)

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
Is it always missing? Or just sometimes? If always... was it ever there in
the past? Or, has it always been broken in this particular installation of
Word?

What happens if you create a new Windows user with pristine user settings?
Does it work properly there?

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
I've *never* seen it not be there. If grammar is installed, the explanation
button is supposed to be there.

I wasn't talking about putting a new installation on the machine... just
creating a new Windows user. Each new user gets new settings for
already-installed Office programs. This is a way to test to see if the
problem is with messed-up settings or is with the whole installation of
Office on that computer.

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
I have logged in as a new user on the machine. It still does not show the
Explain button. As I said these are all networked machine with the same
image on all. I have the Explain button on my home machine.

Re: Spelling Grammar Dialog Box Explain button missing
Wait... is it missing from all of the computers on the network, or just one?

I don't know if that' something that can be removed using the policy
editor, but that would be my next guess... though, why someone would've
removed it is beyond me.
