Word 2003 documents open slowly
Hi,

Many users are complaining Word 2003 takes a long time before opening any
document. After a detailed investigation I discovered that there were
hundreds of packets of data going through the network cables whenever the
user had one or more network printers drivers (the more drivers they had,
the worst the performance got). For instance, if I delete all the user
defined network printers, leaving only the local ones, the documents open
very quickly. But as soon as I add a network printer, performance goes down
again. I tried reinstalling the printer driver using a local port pointing
to the network share printer drivers; but that didn't seem to boost the
performance.

Is there a way (registry key maybe) to deactivate the annoying Word behavior
of polling all the network printer drivers when opening a document?

Thanks,

Laurent
PS: we are using Win XP SP2/Office 2003 SP2
