Macro Security levels
My firm has just upgraded all computers from NT and I am now having problems
getting macros in workgroup templates to run on new desktops. I've tried
setting security levels to medium, trust all installed templates, and still
cannot get the macros to run. I can't even get the option message to run.
These are macros developed in house and we need to get them back up and
running? Any suggestions beyond what's in the knowledge base and on-line
help? (Or maybe tell me how I am misreading those artilces!)

Thanks in advance.

Re: Macro Security levels
If you:
(1) put the templates in the Workgroup Templates folder (as recognized by
each Word installation on each computer)
(2) set the macro security to medium, in each Word installation
(3) set macro security to trust installed templates and addins, in each Word
installation

the macros will run, or at least macro security won't block them. I don't
think you need to lower security to medium(2 above) for this to work, but
that is what will get Word to ask about macros that are not trusted rather
than rejecting them without mentioning it.

Start by setting these up on one user's computer. Make sure that that user
has set the workgroup templates folder to be the one you want. Don't try to
fix everyone at once, get one working.

Many find it best to actually have the workgroup templates folder local.
Upon login, an XCOPY instruction updates the local folder from a network
location.

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see
