I've just upgraded my operating system from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 and understand that the new system doesn't need Adobe Type Manager to handle PostScript fonts. My concern now is with printing PS fonts with my HP 1320 printer, which is PostScript capable. In the past, I would install the Adobe PostScript printer driver on the hard drive, and then install the printer through that driver. I'm somewhat bewildered now, because the HP software also contains a PostScript printer driver. Does anyone know which I should use, and how the printer should be installed?
You can install either the HP PCL driver or the PostScript driver. Windows will print using either and will print PostScript Type 3 fonts correctly. Also, the system will install Postscript fonts properly regardless of the printer driver installed. There are differences in the way the drivers handle font substitution and there will be different settings to influence that in the driver settings. I would try the PostScript driver. Let us know.
