Are you saying this is global, meaning all TrueType fonts from Adobe and
Linotype? (And Office never did embed Type 1, so this refers only to
TrueType, correct?)

Yes, and yes.
The only original Adobe Truetypes are in their "Web Type" collection.
I haven't properly tested the various permutations of OpenType fonts.

Thanks. I'm going to have to play around with this. I wonder if this was a
fight between MS and the vendors.

Re: Vendor-Restricted Embedding
Hi Character & Tim,
I didn't note a later followup from your earlier discussion on this.
If using Palatino Linotype is a valid test for this :), then when saved from Word 2003 in .doc format the font is embedded, but it
doesn't appear to be included when savind as .docx or .docm.
When saved from Word 2007 as .doc, .docx or .docm the font does appear to be embedded, although from the file sizes it may not be as
efficiently done as might be expected (i.e. in Word 2007 with a one paragraph document formatted as Palatino Linotype the .docm
fonts folder contains nine .odttf font files). This may be in part because at present there are right to left languages enabled and
it may be covering those as well even though not explicitly used in the body of the document.

In MSOffice 2003, including Word, fonts from certain vendors
(identified via the Vendor Code), such as Adobe and Linotype, cannot
be embedded, regardless of how the embedding flag is set. This
contravenes the express wishes of the foundries and vendors, and is a
significant impediment to users. I don't know if this happened with
Office 97 or 2000, but I'm pretty sure it didn't under '97.
Does anyone know if this has been changed in the latest versions
(2007) of Office?
