I have seen multiple posts on this but I found an easier way around the issue. I am using Word 2007. When numbering paragraphs using the list numbering and trying to number paragraphs as follows (0001....0010....0099....0100) there is an issue. 0100 becomes 00100. This is because the list number is just inserting 2 leading zeros no matter what the number is. The common approach to get around this is to use the cumbersome CTRL + F9 and insert { SEQ test \# "[0000]" }. The problem with this is that you have to manually add this to every paragraph. In my case there are 230 of them. Might as well print it out and write them by hand if you ask me. So here is a work around: 1) Use the standard numbering and ignore the extra zero after 100 until you are done (i.e. no point doing this until you know for sure which paragraph is going to be 100). 2) Create a new paragraph in front of 100 (this will make paragraph 100 be numbered paragraph 101. 3) Select the 101 number and right click and select set numbering value. 4) Set "Start New List" and set the number to 100. This will separate the number lists 0-99 and 100+ (the real 100) 5) Select the real number 100 (not the fake one) and right click, select numbering, Define new numbering format 6) Remove the extra zero and hit ok. 7) Delete the fake 100 paragraph. For some reason it does not rejoin the number groups. 8) Leave well enough alone and pray you don't accidently mess with the numbers in the future but for now it is working for me without having to manually use the carpal-tunnel inducing SEQ test \# "[0000]" Hope this helps someone. -- Matthew Townsend
