I am working in Word 2007 and trying to insert an equation. Equation is greyed out. Symbol is avaliable. What is causing equation to be greyed out. I have used this function before.
I had the same problem. I fixed it simply by not being in compatibility mode. That is you should save your document as 2007 docx document.
