When I have a Word file open on screen, how do I identify which directory it has come from? I back up files from my memory stick on to my laptop, but am not always certain which one I am working on.
You do not say which version of Word you're using... the method varies by version. Assuming Word 2003 or earlier, choose File - Properties - General tab. The location is shown there. In Word 2007, click Office button - Prepare - Properties. Location is shown in the top line of the properties panel. You can also set Word up so that it displays the full path in the document title bar. File | Properties. On the General tab, the Location item will give the full path, though you may have to scroll to see it all (if you drag your mouse from left to right, you can select the entire thing and copy it, if desired). -- Suzanne S.
