Adding buttons to toolbars
Please help. When I add buttons to my toolbars at work, then later log off
for the day, the new buttons are gone. They don't stick. I've tried
creating my own customized toolbar, that that doesn't stick either.... I
believe it has something to do with access rights, and i tried to change the
options under "Users" menu in control panel, but that didn't do it either.
My boss has no idea where to go to fix this. I REALLY need to add a number
of buttons that I use daily ...

Thanks for any help I can get!

Re: Adding buttons to toolbars
Toolbars, by default, are stored in normal.dot (the blank document
template). It seems as if you are being prevented from saving to that
template. That could be caused by a poorly designed add-in, in which case
you can work around the problem by opening normal.dot directly, as a
document, adding the toolbars, saving and closing the file. However, it is
also possible that normal.dot is being deleted (for example by a log-in
script) each time you log in. Talk to the network administrator.

By default, these are saved to the Normal.dot template. Quite possibly this is
saved in a location where you don't have write permissions.

Try this:

1. Create a new file

2. Save it as a template

3. Make the changes to the toolbars and be sure to save them to this template

4. Save and close the template

5. Log off, then log back in

6. In Word you want to load this template as an Add-in. If this is Word 2003 or
earlier, you do this in the bottom half of the Tools/Templates and Add-ins
dialog box. If this is Word 2007, go to Word Options, Add-ins. From the
"Manage" list at the bottom select Templates, then click "Go". This is the same
dialog box as in earlier versions. Click the "Add" button, navigate to where
you saved the template and select it.

Do your toolbar changes appear?

If yes, and you want to know how to have this load automatically, please tell
us the version of Word you're using.
