Unknown document changes.
I have numerous technical documents in word format. When I open some of them
for viewing and then try to close them I get a pop up box asking to save or
remove changes. What causes this? How do I stop it?.

Runing Microft Word 2002.

If the document contains dynamic content (such as a Date field) that updates
automatically, that will cause Word to prompt to save changes. Page numbering
will also update automatically. Assuming that's the case, and there's nothing in
the document that needs to update, you can lock the fields. You need to go into
each part of the document (main text, headers, footers, etc.) and
    - press Ctrl+A to select all
    - press Ctrl+F11 to lock the fields

(Ctrl+Shift+F11 will unlock fields)
