Hi Dave,
Excuse me for second guessing you but are you sure when you selected the
text in the cover (to copy), you included the section break? I ask because
selecting a section break can be tricky. I usually select one character
beyond the section break to ensure I've "captured" it. Also, do you have the
Show/Hide button on your standard toolbar set to show; that is, is it
highlighted (active)? If so, you would be able to see the section break and,
thus, ensure that you have selected it along with the preceding text.
If you are sure that you selected the section break along with your text and
pasted it all into your letter document, well, then, I'm out of suggestions.
Hopefully, another, wiser, user can help enlighten us both!

Hi Nina - thanks for the reply!
I just went back and tried it again - this time with the show/hide button
set to show. So, I was able to visually see the section break in the source
document and be sure it was selected. When doing that it was clear that the
copy feature was not selecting the background.
The source document is actually a wizard generated letter. So it has an
image of the globe and some other stuff that I think are typically called
watermarks (grey background images).
When I do a copy and paste it gets all the foreground stuff but leaves
behind the background stuff :-(
No worries about second guessing me - I'm not a word expert by any means :-)
