I hear ya, but I've found no option, button, or right-click, way to
modify the columns. Right-click on the columns header does nothing.

Re: Open Dialog, Details & List the same
What version are you using? When I right-click on the Name header in Details
view in Word 2003, I get a list of fields and can check the ones I want.

It's word 2000, SP3.

That feature may not have been available in Word 2000, or it may depend on
the operating system you're using.

Hi Suzanne,
We have word 2000 on lots of PCs, and to the best of knowledge,
only this one has an issue. For example, my PC has no problem with
the Details and List view from the open dialog box and I'm running
Word 2000 (Note: I cannot change my columns either, but that's not the
issue).
What I'm wondering now is where Word looks to know the difference
between Details and List?
Thanks.

Re: Open Dialog, Details & List the same
The issue I was addressing (as being limited to Word 2000) was of being
unable to customize the columns. Since the Open and Save dialogs in Word are
subsets of Windows Explorer, perhaps the change can/must be made there?

No, afraid not. I actually tried a number of applications and Windows
Explorer. The Details and List views work just fine except in Word
2000.

Re: Open Dialog, Details & List the same
Well, I don't see how this could be a Registry issue, and, even if it were,
I wouldn't know what key to suggest nuking. And it certainly is not anything
covered by Normal.dot, add-ins, or the printer driver, so I'm out of ideas.
I guess you could try repairing or reinstalling Word.

Finally found it. The problem was the far-right columns, were
indvidually pulled to the left concealing everything but the filename.
*However* depending on where the separator was located, pulling it and
double-clicking the column separator would not reveal the hidden
columns. It seems it took a sequence of double-clicks and possibly
right-pulls to finally reveal the hidden columns. Can't say I ever
ran into a case where the separator double-click didn't expand to
reveal what was underneath.
What a pain that was.

Re: Open Dialog, Details & List the same
I figured it had to be something weird like that, but I don't have enough
experience with customizing these settings to have learned as much about it
as you evidently have.
