Add-in macro not shown in Quick Access Toolbar commands
I have an add-in (Word 2007) which has public macros and is loaded on
startup. I can view / run the macro pressing ALT+F8. But i would like
to add a button on the QAT but when i goto customize and choose
"Macros" from the "Choose commands from" drop down the macros are not
listed.

What i find odd is that if i hit the "Customize..." button on the
keyboard shortcuts the macros are listed here and I can assign a
keyboard shortcut to them but can't seem to add a button in the QAT?

Any help?

Re: Add-in macro not shown in Quick Access Toolbar commands
I see the same thing. I suspect that this was an oversight in creating the
QAT capabilities. I'll ask Microsoft if it's a bug. It sure seems like one
to me.

Re: Add-in macro not shown in Quick Access Toolbar commands
I suspect this may be by design. If you open the startup template in Word,
then the macro listings it contains become available to the QAT editor. Add
the command then close the template.

Thanks for both of you. That would be great if you could ask Microsoft
about it. If its a bug it would be great to get it fixed. If its by
desing it doesn't make much sense to be able to link it to a keyboard
shortcut but NOT be able to link it to a button. And surely its pretty
laborious to have to open up the add-in to be able to link a button.

If there is sense in it, it is because the QAT is completely new to the
version, whereas the shortcut key editor is retained from the earlier
versions. 2007 is a bit of a mish mash of old and new functions and the new
functions often leave something to be desired. I suspect at least some of
the shortcomings will be addressed in the next version. If we get a comment
from Microsoft it will be passed on.

If you still have access to the earlier Word version you may find
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm useful. Not a convenient
solution, but a flexible approach to adding tools.

Re: Add-in macro not shown in Quick Access Toolbar commands
Bolstering the idea that it's a bug, if you revisit the QAT customize window
after adding a macro by opening the startup template directly, after the
template is closed, you can no longer see where the macro associated with
the tool resides. This definitely seems like an oversight to me. You should
always be able to inspect things to find out what's what, and in this case,
once the startup-based macro has been added to the QAT in the manner
indicated by Graham, the QAT dialog offers no subsequent trail to the owning
template.

So in the meantime to make it easier for co-workers to use the add-in
i put it into a COM Add-in and Added a tab in the ribbon. This atleast
allows them to add the commands to the QAT. But how can then remove my
"Common Tasks" tab from the ribbon if they so choose? I find this odd
since in all other versions of office you could customize the toolbars
so easily. Thanks for all the help

Short of removing the add-in there is no way to toggle the display of ribbon
items. Love it or loathe it the approach adopted in 2007 is fundamentally
different from that in earlier versions.
