Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for office 2007 doesn't work on my office 2002.
I have to use office 2002 because of copatability with my old Timex data
link watch. I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Office Compatability
pack for word, excel, and power point 2007 file formats.several months ago.
When I got a word 2007 document, it could not be read. I went to the
control panel, add remove programs, and saw the compatability pack had been
installed but had problems. I clicked repair, and nothing happened. I
removed the update and reinstalled it, and now it does not show up in
add/remove programs. I have officed 2003 installed on another computer, and
the compatability pack worked fine and I could open the file. Now, when I
look at microsoft office 2002 for students and teachers in the add/remove
programs, I see 3 updates that cannot be removed and there is no link to the
updates. I don't know if my installation is totally messed up and I should
uninstall office 2002 and reinstall it or if there is something else I can
do. I am attaching the add remove programs screens in question.

You are prudent in not wanting to remove and reinstall Office without good
reason. Nonetheless, in this instance, I see no practical alternative. I
would put the CD in the drive and do a remove/install. Then install any
applicable updates.

I would try a repair of 2002 *from the installation disc* first.

Agreed.
I thought that had been tried. Upon re-reading the original post, I see that
perhaps it was not.

Re: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for office 2007 doesn't work on my office 2002.
Hi Patti,
Generally, updates to Office programs don't have the ability to be uninstalled separately.
If you open Word 2002 and in
Tools=>Options=>General
you turn on 'Confirm conversions on open'
then use File=>Open to try to open a Word 2007 file do you get the Word 2007 choice in the list?
What was the source of the Word 2007 file? It could be corrupted (be sure to save it to disk before trying to open it), or it could
be from a pre-release version of Word 2007.
