Our company is getting a fair amount of documents in DOTX that we can not open. We are using XP Pro w/ Office 2003 Pro and all the latest updates. If DOTX is a Microsoft file and our company is 100% Microsoft, why can't we open the files? Thank you.
.docx is the new Word 2007 file format. You can install the Office 2007 compatibility pack as described in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=923505 "How to install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack so that you can use earlier versions of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word to open and to save files from 2007 Office programs". We have done these steps including loading the updates from Microsoft updates after installing the compatibility pack and still cannot open .dotx files. There isn't even a file reservation for .dotx files in Windows! I tried to create one and set the document type as Word 2007 and regular Word, but neither worked. There is not a listing for a MS Office Word 2007 XML doc let alone an XML doc TEMPLATE when creating file registrations. Please help!!! Another post said I would have to ask the sender to resend the document in .dot format. This is a vendor that we work with a lot and it seems like a real pain to have to remember to save the file in a different format every time. Isn't there another solution??!! Thanks for any help!! Hi Girl 79, Unfortunately, while document formats (.docx and .docm)from Office 2007 are supported in WOrd 2000, 2002 and 2003 by the compatability converters, 2007 template files (.dotx) are not supported. ================= <<"galantgirl79" wrote in message news:1DABC7F7-D2A3-4022-9AD9-572815FD7553@microsoft.com... I had the same problem when I created a .dotx template for a group of people. I ended up converting the template to a MS Word 2003 and earlier version compatible .doc file and instructed the group to to save it as a .dot file. It is a workaround solution of sorts, but Microsoft needs to solve the problem. url:http://www.ureader.com/msg/1002371.aspx
