Hi. Does anyone know how to avoid that Word 2003 wants to convert my txt file into a xml file when opening the file in Word? The txt file apparently contains some structures(?) that triggers a conversion to xml. I want that Word opens the file as a txt file (as it is) - and not converts the file / prompts me with the 'Convert file' dialog. br michael - DK
Word has an inherent ability to open a variety of different file types. Depending on what setting you have in tools > options > general > confirm conversion at open, if there is any ambiguity in the file type it will either use a best guess or will prompt you for the type of file conversion to use. If your file appears to Word to be XML ( a type of text file), then you are going to have to live with the latter. -- <>>< ><<> ><<> <>>< ><<> <>>< <>><<> Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org <>>< ><<> ><<> <>>< ><<> <>>< <>><<> mhn wrote: > Hi. > > Does anyone know how to avoid that Word 2003 wants to convert my txt > file into a xml file when opening the file in Word? > > The txt file apparently contains some structures(?) that triggers a > conversion to xml. > > > I want that Word opens the file as a txt file (as it is) - and not > converts the file / prompts me with the 'Convert file' dialog. > > > > br > michael - DK
