Trouble with Tables in Conversion of DOC to PDF
Hello everyone!

I'd like to convert a word document containing lots of tables into a
PDF. Unfortunately, tables impose a major problem in doing so, i.e.
line width will be erroneously displayed in the PDF (thick lines have
become thin and vice versa).

So far I tried the following software:
1.	Adobe Acrobat 7.0
2.	PDFCreator
3.	FreePDF XP
4.	GhostView
5.	PDF generation through OpenOffice's Writer after importing the
*.doc file.

I randomly checked some PDFs from the internet. Most of them presented
with the same shortcomings concerning table layout as my own. But some
were OK. So there must be some circumvent. I'd be very pleased if
somebody could help me out!

Thanks in advance,
Patrick.

This is usually a display artifact. Try these two tests to determine
whether you have a real problem or not:

1. Zoom in to a high magnification and look at the rules.

2. Print the document on the same printer you use for the original Word
doc and compare the results.

Thanks for your immediate response!

Indeed, if I zoom in, originally thin lines will become thin and thick
lines will be displayed thick. But another problem I encountered during
conversion into PDF, was that normal lines became dashed. This effect
persists even after zooming to 6400 %. Unfortunately, I do not possess
a printer at home, so I have to wait until Tuesday to use the printer
in my office. I may get back by then.

Patrick,

Under some circumstances Word build lines out of dashes. Try this: Shut
down Word. Start > Settings > Printers. Make Distiller your default
Windows printer (just for this--you can change it back later if you need
to). Restart Word. Create the PDF again. See if that solves the problem.
If not, write back saying what version of Word you are using.
