I have a new laptop with windows 2007 installed. I saved a word doc from my work pc which runs on windows 2003 onto my pendrive and opened it on my laptop. I edited the doc and then clicked on save. After an eternity of waiting, I got the message "check the drive to make sure the door is closed and it contains the correct disc or cd" even though the drive wasn't in use and I was working from a usb pen drive. So I clicked ok, and got the message "Word failed reading from this file (~WRL0004). Please restore the network connection or replace the floppy disc and retry". Netiher of which were being used. I clicked cancel, got the first message again, followed by "Worf has lost data due to a bad network connection or missing floppy, documents replying on this data are going to be saved and then closed". Then the file vanishes from my hard drive and a temp recovery file is inserted that when opened is just full of question marks. So I lost all of my editing work. Anyone know why or how to stop this happening again?
NEVER work directly with any type of removable media - especially pen drives. Always open and save from the local HDD - copy to/from the removable media. -- Terry Farrell - MSWord MVP "nova" wrote in message news:6E740DE9-5FD9-48FE-9265-85125BF1972C@microsoft.com... >I have a new laptop with windows 2007 installed.
