weird printing problem - repost
Sorry to post this again - this will be the last time. Someone has suggested
dumping the lexmark and going for an hp - but this is deffo pc related as
the printer works on another pc. Has anyone else got any ideas - have
removed all printers and software, deleted all the drivers, rebooted.
Downloaded the lastest drivers, reinstalled the printer and still.....cannot
print anything other than an alignment page.

Can't work this one out. Have purchase a lexmark z617 and tried to install
on an xp machine. All installed fine (went through lexmark install rather
than xp install). Printer appears in the printers and faxes. In the lexmark
solution centre, the media levels are all fine...but....if I try to print
anything, the printer clunks, the job is sent to the queue, the lexmark
printing status monitor comes up (this shows a question mark next to the
toner levels), the print queue then says deleting and nothing prints.

It isn't the printer - it installed on a different pc and works fine. I
tried to delete the usb printer port but it wouldn't let me. I attached a
dell printer and got exactly the same problem. I disabled the firewall -
didn't make any difference. Now I'm getting fed up!

Re: weird printing problem - repost
First, a Dell printer is a close cousin of a Lexmark printer.
The first thing I would do is to disconnect the Lexmark printer. Uninstall
the lexmark drivers. Then restart the computer in safe mode. Cleanup any
device manager entries related to the printer. This may also include USB
subsystem entries.
Restart, let windows autodetect teh USB ports. (Unless you have a MBD that
uses OEM USB port and controller drivers, then use them.) Shutdown, Restart.
Install the Lexmark driver package per Lexmark's instructins and prompts.

The purpose of removing and reinstalling the USB ports and controllers is to
eventually force a reassociation between the USB ports and the printer
driver after it is reinstalled.

The presence of active printer monitors from other printers may be part of a
printer no print or print slowly problem.
