Hi, I want to copy the users for the TopSite to a Subsite. I want them to have different permissions at the subsite than they do at the TopSite. Is there a way to copy or import them? I can copy site groups within the TopSite but I can't figure out how to bring them over to the Subsite. Thanks, PML
The only way I can think of is to use Inherited permission when creating the child site and then go to site settings on the child site and turn of inherited to unique. The site groups are all now available and you can also change them to different permssions such as from reader to contributer. Migrating users actually is pretty easy with the utilities that are available now (WSSUserUtil and SPSUserUtil) and can be done from the command line. I have had great success leveraging them, and use them to do one way migrations of users for my development enviroments. Adam Buenz http://www.cyberlaundering.com
There is also a tool by Webfox Corp. Backup Elite SC (www.webfox.ca) that provides an easy interface to move users from one site/sub site to another site/subsite, provides a reusable users.xml file to push users onto a site and include permissions.
