Verbose mode
Sometimes W xp simply stops booting and no error message appears on the
screen. How does one put W xp in "verbose" mode so that an error messages
appear?

Re: Verbose mode
But error messages are very important. Is there no way of enabling verbose
mode?
Is there an F key I can press during bootup that would enable error messages?

In short, no. It depends on the error as to whether info shows on the
screen. Check event viewer for errors. Does the system reboot or just
stop. If restarting turn off automatically restart on system failure by
right clicking on My Computer | Properties | Advanced tab | Startup and
Recovery - Settings.

True, and an error message would be displayed when an error occurs.
Otherwise, what's the point?

What, precisely, do you mean by "verbose" mode? If you're expecting
WinXP to behave like some unnamed earlier OS, you're bound to be
disappointed.

Again, if an error occurs, you'll know it.

Re: Verbose mode
Under W XP, I think there is a way of recording what happens during bootup by
pressing a "F" key during bootup. Which F key would enable the recording?

Re: Verbose mode
when you hit the F8 key to get to the boot menu, I believe logging is one of
the options.
it should create a file named bootlog.txt
