vista mail 100% cpu

When I have Vista Mail running in the back ground it uses 100% of the
CPU and slows down my laptop and flattens the battery quickly, I need it
running as I get regular e-mails. Has anyone came accross this and
appart from shutting down mail, know how to repair this.

When someone sends an e-mail back to me as a"reply" , my original text comes
back as plain text, any colours 'stitched in' , and formatting, is removed,
also the message is squashed up to the left and only uses half the screen.

The last time I clicked OK to this message, I later found several important
emails went missing. I checked in all the folders but couldn't find it. I
seek Help to try to locate the emails but to no avail.
I will not click OK from now on and will removed this constant message
