Dual Boot between XP and Vista

I bought a new hard drive and Vista Ultimate 64-bit (full version). After
doing a clean install of Vista, I found that several of my older programs
are not compatible with and won't install on Vista. I don't want to spend
$400 or more on upgrading the software.
I'd like to keep both XP and Vista on my compu ...

Is it posible to install vista without having to reinstall all my
programs?
I have an acronis true image backup but I'm thinking that if I do a
restore it will also restore xp. Then what?
This is breaking my little brain.
Please help if you can.

Shortcuts no longer work after Vista SP 1 update

Just updated my wife's computer. Don't know why this hadn't happened before
- all updates are set for automatic. The problem now is that none of her
keyboard shortcuts to open programs work. And the icons pinned to the start
menu say the programs don't exist. They do, and I've repinned them from
Explorer ...

only have to options Buy Key, or type in another 1. and Mine isn't
working.

Can't Activate Vista Home Premium

I installed a clean copy of Vista (upgrade)using the format option. I tried
then to upgrade from inside Vista but near the end of the upgrade
attempt I was told Windows couldn't configure one or more components.
(or something to that effect). So, I did the format and install again.(no
upgrade).

I am having a terrible time trying to get my automatic updater to work. For
some reason now it will not load any of the 6 security updates for my
computer. It starts off by downloading the updates then pauses, then throws
out Error code 80071A30.

I had windows vista 32 with 4gb of ram I bought 4gb more and I decided
to install vista 64 bit I formatted my hard drive and not the
quickformat the long one that takes 3 hours I used 2gb to make the
install and tried three different dvd drives they were the master and
still couldn't make it work
