Do I need directx?

I normally would install directx 9 on my win xp computers.
Should I install directx 10, or another version of directx, or should I
avoid installing directx at all on a dell studio laptop running vista
home premium?

Hi everybody,
I have a smal soho network consisting of a netgear router, a brand new PC
équipped with Vista Ultimate (let's call it Vista PC), and another PC using
XP SP 3 (XP PC).
Tha mapping of the network, as seen on the Vista PC, is OK.
From that Vista PC I can access the XP files with no problem.

Using Search in Explorer with Vista

Hey All,
Can someone tell me how I can recursively search folders in Windows Vista
using Explorer? Currently, it only seems to search the currently selected
folder.
In that same vein, is there a way or has anyone found any third party tools
which mimic the classic Explorer interface?

Now What? Vista Ultimate Blue Screen

Crashed with bad disk indicated.
Interestingly I had a few flashes of a solid blue screen once in a while
over the past two days. Must have been a waring of impending doom.
Ran Vista SP1 boot up from CD ( I use F12 to select boot device)
Selected language
selected "Repair Your Computer"
Skipped "Load Drivers ...
